Princess and the Frog Movie Introduces Ray, the Cajun Firefly
"Women love a man with a big back po-tch (porch)!" I love this line. It's from the long awaited Disney Princess and the Frog movie, the excitedly buzzed about movie for 2009.
In the Princess and the Frog movie, Ray is the laid-back, love-struck Cajun firefly. He's a firefly with southern charm, gentle humor and romantic passion. Hilarious for a toothless firefly. Ray is in love with a “Evangeline" another firefly feautured in the movie. To Ray, she's the most beautiful firefly in all creation. Evangeline is Ray's unicorn - unattainable. Yet his love and devotion remain true.
According to Ray's animator Mike Surrey in the Princess and the Frog movie, "Ray knows exactly who he is. He’s the romantic. He is what Naveen and Tiana are, but he has no problem expressing his love, openly and with not a care—where he knows the two of them are in the same boat he is, but they just can’t. It’s hard not to feel for a character like that. He brings a real embodiment of the idea of the transcendent power of love. All from this lumpy, gap-toothed, goofy-looking little guy.”

In the Princess and the Frog movie the goofy Cajun accented firefly Ray tells Prince Naveen, Prince Tiana and Louis about an old lady in the swamp named Mama Odie who could possibly help them. The most tender part of the movie is not between the people or the frogs (that used to be people), but really with Ray. There's a heart-tugging moment that will be worthy of a few tissues.
Princess and the Frog Movie Introduces Louis, the Trumpet Playing Alligator
Louis is a hip, unconvential style trumpet playing hip alligator living in the swamps of New Orleans bayou. He has a passion for jazz and trumpet-playing and wants to be human so he can play in front of an audience. Though he's pretty good at playing the trumpet, Louis tends to scare away most of his audience. Nevertheless, he adds plenty of humor and fun to Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen's adventures. Says animator Eric Goldberg, “He’s needy. He’s full of neuroses. But he has this one gift—playing jazz, and when he gets to play his jazz, that’s when he really is who he is.” He adds fun a off the wall humor to the Princess and the Frog movie.
